How to Convert Receipts to CSV or Excel, Automatically
The fastest way to convert receipts to a CSV or Excel spreadsheet is to skip manual data entry entirely: scan each receipt with an OCR scanner that extracts the amounts, then export the whole set as one file. Here is the workflow, plus how to get the data into Excel, Google Sheets, and QuickBooks.
Why type it when the scan can do it?
A receipt is unstructured paper; a spreadsheet needs structured rows. Something has to bridge that gap, and there are only two options: your fingers or OCR. Manual entry takes 1-2 minutes per receipt and introduces typos exactly where they hurt (amounts). An AI receipt scanner does the same extraction in seconds and keeps the original image attached as proof.
Receipts to CSV in four steps
-
Scan your receipts as you get them
Point Receeto's camera at each receipt. On-device AI extracts the merchant, total, date, currency, and category - no typing, works offline.
-
Pick your date range
In the export screen, choose what you need: last month for bookkeeping, a quarter for estimated taxes, or the full year for your return.
-
Export CSV or ZIP
CSV gives you a clean spreadsheet file. ZIP bundles that CSV with every original receipt image - the format accountants prefer, because the proof travels with the numbers.
-
Share it anywhere
Email it, AirDrop it, or save to Files. Your records are plain, portable files that belong to you - no vendor lock-in, no subscription wall in front of your own data.
Opening the export in your tools
Excel and Apple Numbers
Double-click the CSV (or open it from Files on iPhone). Columns arrive ready-made: date, merchant, amount, currency, category. Add a pivot table on the category column and you have an instant year-end summary.
Google Sheets
In Sheets: File, then Import, then Upload, and select the CSV. Choose "Insert new sheet." Sheets auto-detects the columns.
QuickBooks
QuickBooks imports CSV transaction files: in QuickBooks, find the import transactions option and upload the Receeto CSV, then map the columns once. Keep the ZIP export alongside - QuickBooks holds the numbers, the ZIP holds the receipt images an audit would ask for.
Spreadsheet template seekers, note
If you were searching for an "expense tracker template," an exported CSV is that template - already filled in. The scanner does the data entry the template was going to make you do by hand.
